![]() I read about the Veracruz TSB 21-01-047H-1 for recall 197 where there is this Hyundai service kit (part number 22400-3C000-QQH) that is used to seal the T-joint at area of the top front timing chain cover and corner of front valve cover gasket and divert future oil drips away from the alternator. Its a big job to take off that front timing cover and I'd rather not have to do that if at all possible and find other cheaper options but still fix the oil leak problem. Total quote at $2,900 which includes about $2000 in labor. But they are quoting her for a front timing cover removal, replace some gaskets underneath and water pump gaskets, and front and rear valve cover gaskets and alternator. This Iowa dealer is claiming that the front valve cover gasket is not leaking and the leak is from other areas. She then drove it from North Carolina to Iowa where it is now at a different dealer to inspect the oil leak and failed alternator. The front valve cover gasket was replaced by the dealer 2 weeks ago. The cam cover is joke, being 3rd or 4 time coming off, I had 1 that last dingle donger used DEWALT or Milwaukee and stripped a bunch of cover bolts, I wasnt happy about that, now I have to deal with it.A friend of mine has her 2007 Santa Fe 3.3L at the dealer now with oil leak that killed the alternator. Hyundai wont pay for reseal front cover, too many short cut hacks trying to beat time and screwing up finely machined parts surfaces that no longer straight or flat for assembly for short lived repair attempt, besides customers who cant seem to keep clean oil in engine to not rot RTV.īecause of this, they want us to wipe oil-road dirt off outside of engine, smear RTV all over like peanut butter on bread, RTV snot out of some piece of plastic and put it on so oil runs in internal channel and pukes out elsewhere away from alternator, and then they want pictures besides. This is maybe the 3 go around with this stupid recall. THey will start the vehicle and park it in their lot and, I believe, it compromises the sealant enough that it will leak over a period of time. I know they use a "quick cure" liquid gasket but I don't believe it sets up fast enough. I agree the only way to stop it is to fix it yourself and allow the liquid gasket enough time to cure. I have found that keeping the oil level between the fill marks and NOT at the top drastically reduces the leaking. Shortly after the second recall repair, I believe I am witnessing oil leaking again but no where as much on the alternator. So, per thier standards, the real problem was the oil killing the alternator and not the oil leak. The second fix was similar but added a plastic diverter to redirect oil leaks mostly away from the alternator. Hyundai Canada then issued a second notice stating the inital repair did not work and they were working on another fix. The first recall repair procedure was ineffective and when the oil started leaking on the alternator less that a year after the repair, the dealership said it was something else and not due to their work. Oh yes and I am not going to bother taking it back to Hyandai because I don't like other men touching my baby and I swear to God they broke more stuff then they fixed Has anybody had any luck completely sealing the leak if so how did you do it if you're staring at the motor it's on the left side right above the alternator you can see where your valve cover leaks if you have the problem. Hyundai has posted the procedure to rectify the problem and basically they're telling the technicians to just lift up the cover enough to get some gasket cement under there I think that is a dumb idea. I took mine in for the recall they said they fixed it I got a new alternator and apparently new gasket but within a month it was leaking again within a year I was replacing brand new alternator obviously the alternator is getting dirty again. Has anybody else dealt with this recall the valve cover gasket is leaking oil onto the alternator which kills the alternator possibly lighting it on fire. 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3 all wheel drive limited.
